The December Collection

Here we are, on the last day of the year, and my 12-collections-in-2016-project is coming to its end. We are taking a sunny (and windy!) break from winter in Northern Germany on the Canary island of Lanzarote over the Christmas and New Year season. I am rounding up my design-project with my third Patternmash-live-brief-inspired-collection in… Read More

The November Collection

My November Collection begins where my October Collection ended – at the ‘Botanicactus Garden’ in Mallorca. And it is another collection designed to a Patternmash live brief, called Defence Mechanism. The special thing about this brief was, that it was a weekend brief in contrast to the usual month-long-projects. When I got the brief for… Read More

The October Collection

While I have escaped autumn for a fortnight soaking up the sun and mediterranean beauty on the island of Mallorca, this month’s collection ‘Prairie Flora’ heavily focuses on the autumn and winter season. I have signed up for a couple of projects with Patternmash and the first one was a theme called Praerielands for AW… Read More

The September Collection

This month I played with layers, blend modes and overlays. I combined recent floral photography with hand painted textures of mine, mainly from my Daily Moods for my collection ‘Flora Translucens’. These designs would look great on silk scarves, placement prints on T-Shirts or on iPhone cases, I think. I liked them so much on… Read More

The Summer Sports Collection

As my summer sabbatical is slowly but definitely coming to its end, it is time for me to catch up on some of my developments in pattern design on my blog. Before my vacation I took an excellent 4-week-online course Women’s Activewear with Pattern Observer. Being also a yoga teacher I have seen a lot… Read More

The May Collection

While we had a stretch of warm summerlike days in early May, I designed a couple of wintry patterns to a trend called Ice Princess – the monthly theme in the Textile Design Lab by Pattern Observer. That’s what surface pattern design is often like – Christmas cards in June and bikini patterns ins December.… Read More

The April Collection

April showers bring May flowers … watercolour patterns! For this year’s monthly collection challenge (self-imposed) I like working to the briefs of the Textile Design Lab. In April their brief focused on so-called “Capricious Classics” like stripes, dots, plaids, florals and paisleys and a combination of them. I wanted to get away from the computer… Read More

The March Collection

Even though this month saw the returning of the light and the beginning of spring, my collection of the month focuses on darkness and twilight. It is based on a WGSN trend for Autumn/Winter 2017/18 called “Nocturne” and was the topic of Chelsea’s Challenge of the Textile Design Lab. During the time of the development… Read More

The February Collection

February started with an exciting trip to Munich for me – I took a night train down from Northern to Southern Germany to attend the Munich Fabric Start textile trade fair. It was a cold rainy day, but that didn’t matter for a second, as I spent a whole wonderful day at the trade show.… Read More

The January Collection

Here comes my first pattern collection of 2016! As I mentioned in my last pattern post at the end of my 52-pattern-in-2015-challenge, this year I will focus on pattern collections and show them on a monthly basis. Thinking and designing collection-wise is a skill I would really like to deepen. One thing that will keep… Read More

The last pages in my main sketchbook. I have been The last pages in my main sketchbook.

I have been going through quite an abstract/spiritual phase for the last months and didn’t show that body of work here (but might in the future, I have something planned 😉).

An unsuccessful client commission brought me back to loose florals recently and I enjoyed all that was blooming in April and May - cherry blossoms, irises, poppies, peonies.

And as it is - out with the old, in with new - I started a new sketchbook straight away.
