Pattern 37/52

At the beginning of this week I came down with quite a cold. For two days I didn’t feel too good and I helped my healing process with some wholesome food and a little sketching in the sun. These sketches then became the starting point for a new pattern collection, that emerged quite naturally. I… Read More

Pattern 36/52

My first pattern after the holidays is still very holiday-inspired. With a colour palette from this room in our bungalow on Koh Samet. With some of these greens and pinks I created a pattern for the latest stoff’n design contest themed “arrows”. A funny thing I learned about arrow patterns: even when all the arrows… Read More

Pattern 29/52

My pattern design passion started last summer with signing up for the Make it in Design Summer School where I made my first pattern using collage and some design freeware. Since last summer I have taken a bunch of pattern design courses, like Jessica Swift’s Pattern Camp, all the modules of the Art and Business… Read More

Pattern 28/52

This week’s pattern comes as a cooling summer breeze to you. The process behind my “Blue Wisteria” was fun and experimental. I went back to my plant printing of summer 2012 (blogged about here). The wisteria leaves came from my mother-in-law’s patio (and the pillows still sit around in my bedroom). For the new pattern… Read More

Pattern 27/52

My summer patterning continues, with yummy summer inspiration all around us. Recently, we went strawberry picking with the girls on a local farm nearby. Especially our little Carolina is very fond of strawberries and so I wanted to preserve some of this summer goodness in a pattern. And I had to draw my sketches quickly… Read More

Pattern 26/52

With this week’s pattern I am exactly halfway through the year! And what should be in the middle of the year? Summer! The temperatures are hotting up finally and what can I bring you patternwise better than a cooling lemonade – my entry for this week’s Spoonflower contest. I wanted to combine yellow colour blobs… Read More

Pattern 25/52

It is the Summer Solstice today and the beginning of summer.  After my summery mood and pattern last week, the weather has shifted and we have seen quite a bit of rain this week. So this week’s pattern reflects that: If this pattern looks kind of familiar to you – I used parts of my… Read More

Pattern 24/52

During the summer months I usually turn into quite a fruitarian, living mainly on and totally devouring all the colourful, sweet and juicy bounty that nature has to offer. Last week I tasted the first cherries of this year and with cherries you have to be kind of quick, because before you can blink twice,… Read More

Pattern 23/52

For this week’s pattern I played with a pattern palette and a fashion trend for spring/summer 2016 called Soft Pop. I wanted to get a feel for the colours and designed a scarf pattern for the recent Printed Village competition. Pastels and geometrics are a big part of this trend.  Powdery pinks – why not?… Read More

Pattern 22/52

I close my Week of Poppies with a pattern.  I experimented with inks on yupo paper this week – strange thing that paper, synthetic and water resistent, that lets the ink stay very saturated on top. I was about to throw my first attempt away: But then I rather scanned it and took it into… Read More

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‚Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?‘ Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
― Marianne Williamson

Would you have guessed that I painted these flowers digitally, solely on the iPad? While most digital artists prefer Procreate, I love Adobe Fresco for its unpredictable watercolour brushes which bring much of the beauty and magic of real watercolours 🎨💫

For those of you who are interested in trying digital watercolour painting on the iPad I have a whole beginner class on @skillshare on this topic where we will paint crocuses in the snow, a little harbinger of spring. You can find the link to the class in my bio linktree ⬆️ It also gives you a month on Skillshare for free, with access to all my classes and thousands more.
