My Shop is Open

art pillows

I got so many encouraging responses to my art pillows last week, that I decided to open my shop with Society6. So now not only these pillows are for sale, but also a whole lot of other products with my paintings and pattern on them.

A few examples:

17486342_13197732-clkfkhk_pm17483127_2451323-iphone6_pm 17493215_4705054-iphone6_pm17493441_1628737-bagtote16_pm17490661_2899030-bagtote16_pm17491320_12934883-bagtote16_pm17484756_12930153-mugs11_pm17493321_10033387-mugs11_pm

Society6 also produces art and canvas prints, laptop skins, shower curtains, duvet covers, T-shirts and more. If you don’t know Society6 yet, they are a Santa Monica based company that produce and ship the product in behalf of the artist. The artist gets 10% of the sales revenues.

I hope, you’ll like my shop and check it out. And there are thousands of other great artists and their products to discover! Hubby was infected right away and opened a shop in his own right with his photographs here. And even if I’ll never sell a piece, it’s so rewarding for your ego to see your stuff on products 😉

Lotuses, Lotuses

Colour comes back into my paintings, the lotus shapes are staying.

Here is a recent painting:

Looks ok as it is, but look what a little Photoshop can do:

Fancy a pillow?

One night last week after coming back from a Kundalini yoga class,

I further developed one of the lotus shapes in the original painting into a repeating pattern.

(can you see which one?)

Yogamat anyone?

Pattern 6/52

My pattern of the week is actually a whole collection:

Cathrin Gressieker_INSPIRED-LOTUS-COLLECTION

Like in my paintings, I am also attracted to a softer palette in my patterns at the moment. Being a yoga teacher, lotus motifs usually feel to cliché for me and I avoid them, but these just came naturally to me and were inspired by lotus shapes in Flora Bowley paintings (whose Bloom True Painting course I took last February).

What about a yoga mat then?

Cathrin Gressieker_inspired-lotus-yoga-mat

I can also very well imagine these patterns on bedding.

Sweet lotus dreams anyone?

White and Warm

It is February, it is still winter and my paintings reflect that, I think.

And to keep you warm and cuddly, you can never have enough pillows.

Just for fun I mocked up some of my paintings on pillows.

Hello February!

February has arrived. And feels like another unspectacular winter month.

Cathrin Gressieker_DSC06285-k

But yes, there will be green, amongst the grey and the white –

as Clara’s calendar promises. Maybe catkins (love that word).

And definitely snowdrops, like always in February around here.

Pattern 5/52

For the first half of this year I am taking Lilla Roger’s Assignment Bootcamp. What a great bunch of creatives that is! More than 700 crazy-talented people from over 40 countries – that facebook group is a great place to hang out. Our January assigment was to create a journal using Edwardian brooches as inspiration.

Some of my sketches:

Cathrin Gressieker_brooch sketches

Bootcamp is very relaxedly paced (if you compare it to the MATS courses), one week of sketching and gathering of inspiration, then you get the actual assignment and you have time to nearly the end of the month to create your thing – and upload it to the Gallery, that is now online to drool over for everybody. My final piece looks like this:

jewel journal

Bright and colourful using a colour palette that was offered by Lilla and injected with my usual happy dose of pink. It is a placement print, but I could easily turn it into a repeating pattern. It was fun to make and I wouldn’t mind writing some precious thoughts into this diary.

January Painting

If someone asked me, how I feel right now, I would say like this:

january 50x50cm

Usually I am very attracted to bold and bright colours, but recently I am quite drawn to a pastel palette. Must be the winter for me, when life feels somewhat subdued and inward. I have discovered two great (abstract) painters – Claire Desjardins from Canada and Anne Kristin Hagesaether from Norway (both two cold winter countries …), I really like looking at their paintings, the great colours, shapes and composition of Claire Desjardins and the brushwork of Anne Kristin Hagesaether.

My January painting started with a lot of red and a little pink and got toned down in the process.

Cathrin Gressieker_DSC06189-kCathrin Gressieker_DSC06192-kCathrin Gressieker_DSC06193-kCathrin Gressieker_DSC06195-k

Now there is a lot of white with shades of pink and turquoise, the dominant yellow square (here comes the sun, little darling …), squiggly shapes and I like how the passionate red leftovers peek through.

Quite a quiet feeling.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‚Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?‘ Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Would you have guessed that I painted these flowers digitally, solely on the iPad? While most digital artists prefer Procreate, I love Adobe Fresco for its unpredictable watercolour brushes which bring much of the beauty and magic of real watercolours 🎨💫

For those of you who are interested in trying digital watercolour painting on the iPad I have a whole beginner class on @skillshare on this topic where we will paint crocuses in the snow, a little harbinger of spring. You can find the link to the class in my bio linktree ⬆️ It also gives you a month on Skillshare for free, with access to all my classes and thousands more.
