Featured Designer on Patternobserver in cooperation with SURTEX

I am very honoured to be a featured designer on the Patternobserver blog in cooperation with SURTEX New York. I am utterly proud to be showing a couple of my designs with Pattern Observer Studio at Surtex in New York this May. For those of my friends and followers who would like to know a bit more about… Read More

Licensed Activewear Designs for FLEO

As some of you might know, besides being a textile designer I am also a yoga teacher. When I first heard the word ‘Athleisure’ at a WGSN trend seminar I was about to jump up and shout “That’s me!”. I wear leggings and some kind of dress/tunic all day long as I transition between yoga… Read More

The October Collection

While I have escaped autumn for a fortnight soaking up the sun and mediterranean beauty on the island of Mallorca, this month’s collection ‘Prairie Flora’ heavily focuses on the autumn and winter season. I have signed up for a couple of projects with Patternmash and the first one was a theme called Praerielands for AW… Read More

Design Summer School 2016

It is this time of year again – the design summer school with Make it in Design. Shortly before this year’s briefs were sent out, they published their Surface Pattern Design Lookbook Volume 2 and I was delighted that two of my patterns from last summer’s school were published in it. You can find my… Read More

The Summer Sports Collection

As my summer sabbatical is slowly but definitely coming to its end, it is time for me to catch up on some of my developments in pattern design on my blog. Before my vacation I took an excellent 4-week-online course Women’s Activewear with Pattern Observer. Being also a yoga teacher I have seen a lot… Read More

The May Collection

While we had a stretch of warm summerlike days in early May, I designed a couple of wintry patterns to a trend called Ice Princess – the monthly theme in the Textile Design Lab by Pattern Observer. That’s what surface pattern design is often like – Christmas cards in June and bikini patterns ins December.… Read More

100 Days of Daily Moods

About three weeks ago a lot of posts started showing up in my Instagram feed with people announcing their coming #the100dayproject, starting the next day on April 19. I had heard about the project before, thinking you can start doing it anytime (which you can do, of course!), but this time it was announced by… Read More

The March Collection

Even though this month saw the returning of the light and the beginning of spring, my collection of the month focuses on darkness and twilight. It is based on a WGSN trend for Autumn/Winter 2017/18 called “Nocturne” and was the topic of Chelsea’s Challenge of the Textile Design Lab. During the time of the development… Read More

In the Studio – New Paintings

As much as I like working on my computer designing patterns, I very much need the actual process of real painting in real life. Real paint on my real hands and brushes, all the exploration and surprises and all the “mistakes” that can’t be fixed with a go-back keyboard command. Painting always touches me on… Read More

From Tucson to Oldenburg

I love a good collaborative art session and I count myself very lucky that I have my art buddy Doris Reske living and working with me in Oldenburg and that we have our monthly  Co-Lab painting sessions together – like our fun last one, the first one of 2016. Last year I took part in… Read More

Hi creative people, I have a brandnew 90-min class Hi creative people, I have a brandnew 90-min class with @etchr_studio coming up this Friday at 10am EDT - ‘Nostalgic Little Portraits in Multi-Media’ 🎨

Making art is more than just techniques. Art is about capturing moments and connecting emotionally with your subject. If this resonates with you, then please join me when I show you in this interactive class:

• The easiest (and quickest) way to create portraits
• Combining coloured pencils, markers, crayons, watercolour and acrylics
• How to identify facial proportions
• Adding expression to your portraits through simple marks
• How to consider negative space in your composition
• Picking simple but effective colour palettes

Materials needed:
• Watercolour and/or acrylic
, coloured pencils, crayons, black marker
• Brush and water
• Postcard-sized paper (5-6 pieces)

The class will be streamed live & free on Etchr’s YouTube channel this Friday and anybody can join. You can find the link right on top in my bio linktree. After that it will not be visible on YouTube anymore, but you can purchase the class recording for only $7. A 7-day-subscription-free-trial of Etchr Studio is also available (hundreds of classes!).

If you have missed my 30-min free introductory demo to little portraits, this stays on YouTube and you can also find it in my bio linktree if you would like to warm up for class on Friday. See you 👋

This week I had the big honour to do a dance & art This week I had the big honour to do a dance & art project at a school in Oldenburg, where I live in Germany. The overall theme was ‘Europe & Diversity’.

For the whole week the pupils (aged 10-14) and I danced to songs in the languages of Europe, in this school alone there are pupils from over 50 nationalities.

And then we painted the national flowers of European countries (like roses of England, irises of France, poppies of Poland and cornflowers of Germany) to put them together in a large colourful collage to be displayed at the end of the week on Open Day, and the pupils also choreographed their own dance performance. I am very proud of them 💃🏻🎨🌸🎉😊💪 And I feel I learned more from them then they from me.

Bye-bye, acrylics for the moment! We had such an impressive expressive time together. But I think tomorrow I will open a new chapter of art supplies for the last 15 cards of my project.

I still can’t really believe it’s summer now! I still can’t really believe it’s summer now! It’s like longing for it all year and now it came like a surprise, strange thing.

Still a month of work ahead for me, but then - let’s start dreaming, this photo by @malswim with my Aloha print puts me in the right tropical state of mind 🌴🌊👙
