The February Collection

February started with an exciting trip to Munich for me – I took a night train down from Northern to Southern Germany to attend the Munich Fabric Start textile trade fair. It was a cold rainy day, but that didn’t matter for a second, as I spent a whole wonderful day at the trade show.… Read More

Pattern 46/52

I designed my pattern for this week for the Spoonflower contest Moon Phases. It is another pattern from my Mallorca holiday and was created under the influence of the full moon there, right in front of our balcony: I like circles and circle-based designs and this geometric pattern came together in Illustrator: Head over to… Read More

Pattern 41/52

A simple before-bed doodle in my sketchbook became the basis for this week’s pattern. Circles of different sizes, some felt markers and then I put this sketch into Photoshop, put it into a repeat and added a darker background: It is called “bacteria night party” and is my submission for the recent Spoonflower contest themed… Read More

Pattern 39/52

This week’s theme for sketching and my pattern-making totally naturally popped up – mushrooms! When I went for a little jog last Sunday I saw loads of them having appeared overnight. Mushrooms are so much associated with autumn/fall and are such a big part of my childhood memories that my mushroom gathering instinct was instantly… Read More

Pattern 36/52

My first pattern after the holidays is still very holiday-inspired. With a colour palette from this room in our bungalow on Koh Samet. With some of these greens and pinks I created a pattern for the latest stoff’n design contest themed “arrows”. A funny thing I learned about arrow patterns: even when all the arrows… Read More

Pattern 26/52

With this week’s pattern I am exactly halfway through the year! And what should be in the middle of the year? Summer! The temperatures are hotting up finally and what can I bring you patternwise better than a cooling lemonade – my entry for this week’s Spoonflower contest. I wanted to combine yellow colour blobs… Read More

Pattern 23/52

For this week’s pattern I played with a pattern palette and a fashion trend for spring/summer 2016 called Soft Pop. I wanted to get a feel for the colours and designed a scarf pattern for the recent Printed Village competition. Pastels and geometrics are a big part of this trend.  Powdery pinks – why not?… Read More

Pattern 18/52

My pattern “summer nights” was shortlisted (again) for the recent Tigerprint giftwrap Make Your Mark competition – from over 960 entries 71 designs were chosen, here is the shortlist. If this pattern looks familiar to you, you’re right, it was already part of my Pattern 16/52 giftwrap collection. But with the Tigerprint news this pattern… Read More

Pattern 15/52

This week’s pattern is again a by-product of the Make Art that Sells course Part B, its 5th and final week was dedicated to Party Paper – paper plates, napkins, paper cups, wrapping paper etc. Our inspiration – the mini – was Bavarian and Ukrainian folk art. Ok, I am half-German (but not Bavarian) and… Read More

Pattern 14/52

The pattern of the week is the result of the work I did in Week 3 of the MATS B course. The market was scrapbooking – something that took me a while to grasp. There is no such market in Germany (yet), but we were provided with lots of information and visuals in the class… Read More

Hi creative people, I have a brandnew 90-min class Hi creative people, I have a brandnew 90-min class with @etchr_studio coming up this Friday at 10am EDT - ‘Nostalgic Little Portraits in Multi-Media’ 🎨

Making art is more than just techniques. Art is about capturing moments and connecting emotionally with your subject. If this resonates with you, then please join me when I show you in this interactive class:

• The easiest (and quickest) way to create portraits
• Combining coloured pencils, markers, crayons, watercolour and acrylics
• How to identify facial proportions
• Adding expression to your portraits through simple marks
• How to consider negative space in your composition
• Picking simple but effective colour palettes

Materials needed:
• Watercolour and/or acrylic
, coloured pencils, crayons, black marker
• Brush and water
• Postcard-sized paper (5-6 pieces)

The class will be streamed live & free on Etchr’s YouTube channel this Friday and anybody can join. You can find the link right on top in my bio linktree. After that it will not be visible on YouTube anymore, but you can purchase the class recording for only $7. A 7-day-subscription-free-trial of Etchr Studio is also available (hundreds of classes!).

If you have missed my 30-min free introductory demo to little portraits, this stays on YouTube and you can also find it in my bio linktree if you would like to warm up for class on Friday. See you 👋

This week I had the big honour to do a dance & art This week I had the big honour to do a dance & art project at a school in Oldenburg, where I live in Germany. The overall theme was ‘Europe & Diversity’.

For the whole week the pupils (aged 10-14) and I danced to songs in the languages of Europe, in this school alone there are pupils from over 50 nationalities.

And then we painted the national flowers of European countries (like roses of England, irises of France, poppies of Poland and cornflowers of Germany) to put them together in a large colourful collage to be displayed at the end of the week on Open Day, and the pupils also choreographed their own dance performance. I am very proud of them 💃🏻🎨🌸🎉😊💪 And I feel I learned more from them then they from me.

Bye-bye, acrylics for the moment! We had such an impressive expressive time together. But I think tomorrow I will open a new chapter of art supplies for the last 15 cards of my project.

I still can’t really believe it’s summer now! I still can’t really believe it’s summer now! It’s like longing for it all year and now it came like a surprise, strange thing.

Still a month of work ahead for me, but then - let’s start dreaming, this photo by @malswim with my Aloha print puts me in the right tropical state of mind 🌴🌊👙
