The February Collection

February started with an exciting trip to Munich for me – I took a night train down from Northern to Southern Germany to attend the Munich Fabric Start textile trade fair. It was a cold rainy day, but that didn’t matter for a second, as I spent a whole wonderful day at the trade show.… Read More

Pattern 46/52

I designed my pattern for this week for the Spoonflower contest Moon Phases. It is another pattern from my Mallorca holiday and was created under the influence of the full moon there, right in front of our balcony: I like circles and circle-based designs and this geometric pattern came together in Illustrator: Head over to… Read More

Pattern 41/52

A simple before-bed doodle in my sketchbook became the basis for this week’s pattern. Circles of different sizes, some felt markers and then I put this sketch into Photoshop, put it into a repeat and added a darker background: It is called “bacteria night party” and is my submission for the recent Spoonflower contest themed… Read More

Pattern 39/52

This week’s theme for sketching and my pattern-making totally naturally popped up – mushrooms! When I went for a little jog last Sunday I saw loads of them having appeared overnight. Mushrooms are so much associated with autumn/fall and are such a big part of my childhood memories that my mushroom gathering instinct was instantly… Read More

Pattern 36/52

My first pattern after the holidays is still very holiday-inspired. With a colour palette from this room in our bungalow on Koh Samet. With some of these greens and pinks I created a pattern for the latest stoff’n design contest themed “arrows”. A funny thing I learned about arrow patterns: even when all the arrows… Read More

Pattern 26/52

With this week’s pattern I am exactly halfway through the year! And what should be in the middle of the year? Summer! The temperatures are hotting up finally and what can I bring you patternwise better than a cooling lemonade – my entry for this week’s Spoonflower contest. I wanted to combine yellow colour blobs… Read More

Pattern 23/52

For this week’s pattern I played with a pattern palette and a fashion trend for spring/summer 2016 called Soft Pop. I wanted to get a feel for the colours and designed a scarf pattern for the recent Printed Village competition. Pastels and geometrics are a big part of this trend.  Powdery pinks – why not?… Read More

Pattern 18/52

My pattern “summer nights” was shortlisted (again) for the recent Tigerprint giftwrap Make Your Mark competition – from over 960 entries 71 designs were chosen, here is the shortlist. If this pattern looks familiar to you, you’re right, it was already part of my Pattern 16/52 giftwrap collection. But with the Tigerprint news this pattern… Read More

Pattern 15/52

This week’s pattern is again a by-product of the Make Art that Sells course Part B, its 5th and final week was dedicated to Party Paper – paper plates, napkins, paper cups, wrapping paper etc. Our inspiration – the mini – was Bavarian and Ukrainian folk art. Ok, I am half-German (but not Bavarian) and… Read More

Pattern 14/52

The pattern of the week is the result of the work I did in Week 3 of the MATS B course. The market was scrapbooking – something that took me a while to grasp. There is no such market in Germany (yet), but we were provided with lots of information and visuals in the class… Read More

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‚Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?‘ Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Would you have guessed that I painted these flowers digitally, solely on the iPad? While most digital artists prefer Procreate, I love Adobe Fresco for its unpredictable watercolour brushes which bring much of the beauty and magic of real watercolours 🎨💫

For those of you who are interested in trying digital watercolour painting on the iPad I have a whole beginner class on @skillshare on this topic where we will paint crocuses in the snow, a little harbinger of spring. You can find the link to the class in my bio linktree ⬆️ It also gives you a month on Skillshare for free, with access to all my classes and thousands more.
