Colab 6

“Summer afternoon – summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.” Henry James It was exactly that – a perfect Sunday late-summery afternoon, spent in my garden with Doris Reske doing our Colab 6.  We further worked on our monoprinted backgrounds from Colab V, adding line-work,… Read More

A Taste of Thailand

I am slowly settling in back home. And as I usually feel instantly at home in the tropics, coming back to my actual home (which I Iove!) often feels like a reverse culture (and climate) shock. Putting together this collage brought back some the energy of our three weeks in Thailand. in random order: our… Read More

Hello July!

Today I turned Clara’s calendar and her favourite monthly page of them all is now hanging in our living room. And her calendar is so right! Summer has arrived with its full glorious force this week, with the temperatures rising to new heights daily. Carolina asks for ice cream on a daily basis too –… Read More

Pattern 25/52

It is the Summer Solstice today and the beginning of summer.  After my summery mood and pattern last week, the weather has shifted and we have seen quite a bit of rain this week. So this week’s pattern reflects that: If this pattern looks kind of familiar to you – I used parts of my… Read More

A Week of Poppies IV

For the Poppy Weekend I show you a piece fresh from my pink studio, made this morning. It’ s been quite rainy around here lately and for the collage I combined this rainy feeling with popping poppies. This kind of collage is the recent lesson in Alena Hennessy’s painting course A Year of Painting II,… Read More

Pink Moments of the Month

I am recently taking a wonderful course with the amazing painter Alena Hennessy and photographer Susan Tuttle called Radiant HeART . I am a big fan of both and already took their Co-Lab painting & iPhoneography course last year (without having an iPhone, but working in Photoshop instead). Having updated my devices recently, I am… Read More

Pattern 17/52

This week’s pattern was created to a brief in week 2 of the ABSPD course Module 3 (The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design). The assignment was to design a tea towel using traditional media and only black, white and two other colours of choice. I really wanted to recycle the textures I made… Read More

Oh my Goddess!

A new collage called “triple goddess”. I usually have a couple of backgrounds on rotation in my studio. I put leftover paint on them, stencil stuff or start collages. They keep evolving over a couple of weeks and sometimes months, with some changes every now and then. And I rarely have an idea how they… Read More

Pattern 15/52

This week’s pattern is again a by-product of the Make Art that Sells course Part B, its 5th and final week was dedicated to Party Paper – paper plates, napkins, paper cups, wrapping paper etc. Our inspiration – the mini – was Bavarian and Ukrainian folk art. Ok, I am half-German (but not Bavarian) and… Read More

Brain research shows that downtime is more important then me might think, not only for our body, but also for our mind and creativity. Certain areas of the brain even fire more strongly when we are at rest than while trying to solve a task with mental determination. Various kinds of rest and downtime can both replenish our reserves and increase their volume. I am a big fan of an afternoon siesta myself 😉 Have a relaxing weekend, creative people! #inspirationalquotes #creativity #takeanap

From the last leftover paint phase I had back in late August 2020. Now freshly put in repeat and ‘Ethereal’ is uploaded for licensing exclusively via @patternbank. #textiledesign #artlicensing #floralprint

Getting messy and expressive with peonies on the iPad, but without the mess on the painting table, and no charcoal on my hands. #floralartist #procreate #peonies

Being a June babe myself, I love seeing blooming peonies in my birthday month, but it’s still a couple of months until then though. So while researching peony quotes, a little google search on Vita Sackville-West’s life revealed that this Lady lived an intense and colourful one! Growing a celebrated garden must have been her least frivolous pleasure. #artistquotes #peonies #vitasackvillewest

The whole quote goes like this: ‘Your own reasons to create are reason enough. Merely by pursuing what you love, you may inadvertently end up helping us plenty. Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart. The rest will take care of itself.’ From @elizabeth_gilbert_writer’ s highly recommendable book on creativity ‘Big Magic’. #artistquotes #motivationalquotes #liveyourbestlife

Madeleine L’Engle was a writer, but painters say exactly the same thing. Picasso: ‘Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.’ Matisse: ‘Don’t wait for inspiration. It comes while one is working.’ So don’t wait for that elusive muse, let her find you while you are at it 🎨 #artistquotes #doitfortheprocess #musings

One of the absolute pleasures of our global online world, for me, is watching lady boss business blossom and bloom, like women’s activewear brand @_peachy_athletic in collaboration with @lovemi.designs. From taking the leap and researching fabric printers, licensing a design of mine via @patternbank and producing locally in the USA, what’s not to love, kudos 👏💪🙌 @lravens192000 (while having three young kids!) @atasteoflife.ca @a_panda_who_lifts #womensactivewear #ladyboss #textiledesign #designedbywomenforwomen
